Panambur Beach which is located 10Kms for the city of Mangalore is known for its cleanliness and safety. It is the site of New Mangalore Port. It is located in north of the Gurupura river. The name Panambur is derived from ‘Panam’ which means Money and ‘Ur’ which means place or village in Tulu language.
The city’s most visited beach, Panambur is a place where one can enjoy the breath taking view of the sunset. The beach aura warms up during the carnivals, organized by the district authorities. The festivity includes boat races, beach sports and sand sculpture contests. Besides, the kite festival, organized every year, attracts participants from across the country and also abroad during the International Kite Festival held every 2 years at Panambur Beach Mangalore. The next International Kite Festival is planned on 22nd January,2012 .
Panambur beach is probably the best beach in and around Mangalore. Waves are not that high but good sand beach attracts lot of visitors to the beach.It is a popular picnic spot due to the pristine beauty and peaceful surrounding.

In a first of its kind initiative in the country,the beach is maintained by a private enterprise Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project to ensure the beach is maintained clean so as to attract visitors in large numbers and create awareness among the public about the need to keep our beaches clean so as to preserve our nature and maintain ecological balance. Due to the good maintenance of the Panambur Beach by Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project,the Panambur Beach has been awarded as one of the clean & best maintained Beaches in the country.
About Panambur Beach Festival:
The beach festival is being organized as part of the ‘Karavali Utsav’ celebrations in the district. The event will feature adventure sports, kite flying, food festival, and beach volleyball, among others . Cultural programmes in Tulu, Konkani and Beary languages will be organized as part of the festival. The boat race is another added attraction giving spotlight on the local talent.Mouth watering delicacies of Tulunadu will treat the taste buds of the foodies who visit the place. As many as 20 food stalls will be set up at the venue as a part of the food fest. Delicious neerudose, idli, apa, akki pundi and a wide range of pure delicacies of Dakshina Kannada attracts a large number of food lovers.
Colorful kites flown by the Team Mangalore adorn the skies giving an enchanting view for the spectators. Kites on the theme owl, Durga, and Yakshagana flutter in the sky. In addition to Team Mangalore, few interested public along with their family members too will join in flying colorful kites.
